G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe 2020
We’ve been huge fans of this producer for a long time. Their Albe Barolo is a blend of three vineyards, all of high-elevation with exposure ranging from south-south-east to south-west. Pure Nebbiolo of classic proportions, this wine is accessible and serious at the same time. With beautifully lifted aromatics, it’s poised and graceful, and exhibits exactly why Barolo is considered royalty in the wine world.
Aldo and Milena Vajra founded their estate in the early 1970’s, naming it G.D. after Aldo’s father, Giuseppe Domenico. Based in the western part of Barolo, where soils are lighter, they’re renowned for their fragrant, elegant styles of Barolo. Now in the hands of the kids, Giuseppe, Isidoro and Francesca, their commitment to excellence as a family is outstanding, as are the wines. They achieved full organic certification in 2019.
